Informative Essay: How to Survive During Economic Crisis

Everyone can make more money, and have less time to spend the money. In order to survive during economic crisis, one should learn how to keep a tight budget. The first step is to make sure that you have a stable job. It is best to keep a clear flexible record of the money and take care of spending it, especially during leisure time. You must record all the money that you receive and spend. This is called  budgeting.
It is suggested  by Economic experts that every  Filipino family   with just one child should have at least Php 14 000 earnings every month in order to survive with this challenging lifestyle.
Most probably, we can live with this if we only have a simple lifestyle. Learn not to be luxurious  in some cases but make sure you do not sacrifice the comfort, the fashion statement and also the health of the family.
The money that we receive for the month is called salary. It is considered the subsistence to suffice the basic  needs of the family. Definitely, it should be more than the money you spend.
In budgeting, don’t forget to include the money you spend   for the  gas, house rent, electric, telephone and water bills,Keep in mind or give special attention to the budget for food, vitamins ,new dress and new shoes and also for the vacation of the family. It should be given attention because it is the single moment that makes the family members close to each other.
Finally, think about how you spend your free time without spending much money! For example, you spend  a lot of money on activities like watching movies, partying and dining in  the  restaurants. You should avoid these unnecessary expenses. You can find ways to see a movie and eat wiyh your family by  just buying  cd/dvd  tape of the favourite film, cooking  favourite meals and you can have fun already!
Wise budgeting ensures everyone to save money, time, and effort with less worry and stress.

Effects of Smoking

                                               Effects of Smoking

                                      By: Ma. Theresa Clerigo

Smoking is the act of inhaling and exhaling the fumes of burning tobacco in cigars, cigarettes or pipes is called cigarette smoking. Originally it was started by Native Americans and was practiced in rituals and for medicinal purposes. But slowly it spread to other parts of the World and by the end of 19th century the use was widespread all over the earth. There are various methods of smoking. They are cigarette, cigar, smoking, pipe, hookah or sheesha (www.buzzle.com ).  Today, the habit is so rampant that it is no longer controllable even if the governments have come down heavily on tobacco manufacturers and sellers in the form of heavy taxation for tobacco and tobacco products. People tend to smoke for so many reasons, some of which are, cigarettes help them temporarily forget their problems, stress reliever, peer and environmental influence. However, they smoke without realizing its implication to their health and the people around them. Every year, hundred thousands of people around the world die from diseases caused by smoking cigarettes.   Many health groups are continuously reminding people about the harmful effects of smoking on the body, aside from the fact that it is habit forming. Once these effects set in, they may be hard to treat, some are even irreversible. So what are some of the dangers smokers seem to be taking for granted?
Health menace from smoking begin as soon as the person starts smoking. Beginners often experience shortness of breath, cough, wheezing, and phlegm more frequently than non-smokers. Also, the earlier a person starts smoking; there is also a bigger risk of premature death from common smoking-related diseases such as emphysema, lung cancer, and heart disease. Adult smokers also put themselves at risk of early onsets of osteoporosis, menopause, and fertility problems. (Wikipedia)
Aside from these major effects, smokers are also at risk of developing mouth ulcers or cancers and dental problems such as teeth discoloration due to tar, gum bleeding and diseases, bad breath, and tooth decay. Smoking also increases the production of acids in the stomach, which often leads to ulcers and heartburn. Tar can also cause cancer of the throat and the esophagus.
Female smokers however have been gaining numbers lately as well, and they also put themselves in major health risks. Since smoking greatly affects the female reproductive system, it affects the production of hormones that prevents the early onset of wrinkles in women. Young smokers may not see the effect now but when they reach the age of 30, they will look more like 40. Smoking during pregnancy is also harmful for the baby, since the development of its brain will be affected, and puts the baby in greater danger of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
So before it is too late, young people should be discouraged from smoking. Meanwhile, it's not yet too late for smokers to break the habit, as there are many treatments being offered today. Stopping early may prove to be beneficial for smokers and their families. The decision to quit smoking is never easy for most people, so drug intervention may be necessary for them to be convinced that they should put away their cigarettes forever. Government should take a lifelong action about this problem which would be beneficial to those who quit and want to stop smoking. Quitting makes sense for many reasons but simply put smoking is bad for health.

Something Ugly About Beauty

If you are a man and at some point a woman will ask you this, " How do I look?". You must be very careful how you answer this question. I tell you , you will never come up with the right answer.
The problem is that most women do not think of their looks in the same way that men do. Most men form an opinion on how they look in early stage of their life and stick to it for the rest of their lives. Most men think of themselves as average looking and being average does not bother them. Yes, average is fine for men. This is why men never ask anybody how do they look?. Their primary beauty care is to shave themselves regularly and just have a tidy clothes to wear. If they already do this they devote their mind to something else just like their next company meeting.
Women do not look themselves this way. Most women think about their appearance in this three words,"not good enough".
No matter how pretty a woman may appear to be to others, when she looks at herself in the mirror, she still have doubts about her looks.
Why do women have such a low self-esteem? Does playing Barbie doll during their formative years has something to do with this? They grow up thinking they need to look like their Barbie which for most women is impossible.
In order to conform  to the said beauty ideal, women have to do lots of procedure to transform their appearance. Nowadays, thinness is a precondition for being perceived by others and oneself as "sensational". Women attempt to mould their appearance to meet to the current beauty ideal. They starve themselves to death to attain a waistline of  26 or 25 perhaps. According to Comerci  incidence in eating disorder such as anorexia nervosa,an eating disorder that makes people lose more weight than is considered healthy for their age and height and bulimia, a disorder characterized by binge eating and purging or consuming a large amount of food in a short amount of time, followed by an attempt to rid oneself of the food consumed, usually by purging (vomiting),diuretics or excessive exercise has doubled for the last two decades.1
After achieving the perfect body form that most women consider as one important goal in life.
Women undergo physical changes through plastic surgery such as liposuction, breast implants, tummy tucks and face lifts.
This has always been a hot topics not just in Hollywood but in our country as well. Tabloids publish issues with  stories speculating who are the celebrities and known people who undergo on the procedure. To name a few, Heidi  Montag a host of reality TV admitted to have ten plastic surgery procedure and she is only 23! Brooke Bates of Texas, became the youngest patient to undergo cosmetic surgery at the tender age of 12 to attain a Barbie body.3
According to 2008 statistics from the America  Society of Aesthetics Plastic Surgery. 93% of surgeries were performed on women.2 Breast Augmentation and Botox seems to be the most popular because perky breast and wrinkle-free face are in nowadays.
These surgeries attest to the extreme adjustment that many women feel they must make in order to attain the body ideal which in turn making positive adjustment on their self esteem. What they didn't realize is they have come to relate to their bodies as an object and a package of experimentation.
We must celebrate our individual differences and imperfections. He made us special. This individuality is worth much more than the price of any plastic surgery procedure. If women continue to pursue the aim of achieving eternally youthful body and beauty, women are only setting up themselves to FAILURE.#juliecabiles#

EARTH'S ADVERSARY

EARTH’S ADVERSARY
By: Dina F. Comboy

Change has taken its toll and even our Earth was not spared. This change is rapidly attacking us like a spear from nowhere. This is not the better change we would want to absorb; this is something we can’t imagine if it continues. We can always run but can we hide from getting our tragic share of consequences? Is it really time to say goodbye to our Mother Earth?

There is nothing constant here on Earth but change. Change is everywhere and it’s either we accept it or decline it because not all change are favorable as it seems.
There are changes that nurture us but sometimes break us just like the so called climate change that poses a threat to the lives of humanity and all living things on Earth. Certainly, we can feel this change. It is weird that it’s so cold at night and experience intense heat in the morning. Summer also start so early as unexpected. The weather is also very unpredictable from sunny to rainy days. We’ve been also visited by numbers of destructive typhoons lately. How can we survive and adjust in these rapid changes? Can we be able to outrun this climate change? Who is to blame for these attacks? It is very obvious that global warming has something to do with this. This increase in Earth’s temperature causes corresponding changes in climate. This is the reason why it is so hot in some parts of the world that may cause sunburn and skin cancer. Because of excess greenhouse gases, global warming become more dangerous and an Earth’s adversary. This is all because of man-made pollution from vehicles, factories, and dirt that causes the thinning down of the ozone layer which is our shield against too much radiation from the sun to enter the Earth’s atmosphere. Therefore, global warming is not the only culprit who generated global warming? Blame ourselves humans! We are the ones who brought this curse to ourselves. We are also an Earth’s adversary instead of becoming its guardians.

The Earth’s fate lies in our hands because we are the only responsible and capable of protecting the Earth. Certainly, we don’t want our home ground to befall in such tragic end. This is a matter of life and death. Dedicate ourselves to green adversaries such as planting trees and recycling that is of big help to rebuild our Earth. It is also important to practice proper waste management at home, school, public places and everywhere. Saving energy is also an essential movement. It may be hard to stop climate change yet even in our own special ways, we can be able to share support for this battle by just becoming a responsible human and be able to encourage others and open their eyes to what our mother Earth is all about and what it can be without these adversaries.

STRESSTABS NO MORE…

by: Mirriam Bless F. Detera

Earlier tonight, my co-teachers and I got home from school after our “over time”, which we are used to doing ever since last school year, my best friend which is one of my co-teachers is not feeling well, this morning she was complaining about headache and flu for the whole day, luckily, the first years had their medical check-up with the school physician, after the kids check-up she also had her check-up with the doctor, surprisingly she got a prescription that she never expected. Later in the drug store, I asked her, “What was the doctor’s prescription?” Stresstabs-she said plainly. I was in great shock. I though the doctor would give the Advil type of medicine or Bioflu. But Stresstabs??? Are we that stressed already? I tried to look at the mirror before writing this article, then I noticed, (as if I don’t notice it every day) my eye bags-gosh, their huge. How did I got them? Am I this workaholic already? Am I nocturnal? Then, I came to remember the article I once read in the Readers Digest, that one of the root causes of migraine is Stress-the highest in rank. So that answers my question of why am I having migraines, because of Stress. Well, I cannot totally blame stress for that, an some “paranormal” things happening in my body. I usually sleep at 12:00 midnight, but 1:00 am is the latest, woke up at around 6:20 in the morning, go to school, work for at most 11 hours, go home and work again. Whew, that’s stressful. Before I blame stress for all this-let us take a look at the anatomy of stress.

Stress is a normal physical response to events that make you feel threatened or upset your balance in some way. When you sense danger – whether it’s real or imagined – the body's defenses kick into high gear in a rapid, automatic process known as the “fight-or-flight” reaction, or the stress response. In general, stress is related to both external and internal factors. External factors include the physical environment, including your job, your relationships with others, your home, and all the situations, challenges, difficulties, and expectations you're confronted with on a daily basis. Internal factors determine your body's ability to respond to, and deal with, the external stress-inducing factors. Internal factors which influence your ability to handle stress include your nutritional status, overall health and fitness levels, emotional well-being, and the amount of sleep and rest you get.

So, do I really need Stresstabs to fight stress? Or just manage my life well so that stress would be eliminated. While browsing the net, I got some tips on how to reduce stress. (http://advancedlifeskills.com/blog/10-ways-to-overcome-stress/)

1.      Do things one at a time. Focus as much as possible on doing one thing at a time. Clear your desk of distractions. Pick something to work on. Need to write a report? Do only that. Remove distractions such as phones and email notifications while you’re working on that report. If you’re going to do email, do only that. This takes practice, and you’ll get urges to do other things. Just keep practicing and you’ll get better at it.
2.      Simplify your schedule. A hectic schedule is a major cause of high stress. Simplify by reducing the number of commitments in your life to just the essential ones. Learn to say no to the rest — and slowly get out of commitments that aren’t beneficial to you. Schedule only a few important things each day, and put space between them. Get out of meetings when they aren’t absolutely essential. Leave room for down time and fun.
3.      Get moving. Do something each day to be active — walk, hike, play a sport, go for a run, do yoga. It doesn’t have to be grueling to reduce stress. Just move. Have fun doing it.
4.      Develop one healthy habit this month. Other than getting active, improving your health overall will help with the stress. But do it one habit at a time. Eat fruits and veggies for snacks. Floss every day. Quit smoking. Cook something healthy for dinner. Drink water instead of soda. One habit at a time.
5.      Declutter. This is a favorite of mine. I like to take 20-30 minutes and just go through a room, getting rid of stuff we don’t use or need anymore.
6.      Be early. But being late can be very stressful. Try to leave earlier by getting ready earlier, or by scheduling more space between events. Things always take longer than normal, so schedule some buffer time: extra time to get ready, to commute, to do errands before you need to be somewhere, to attend a meeting before another scheduled appointment

In totality-some of these tips really do work miracles to me. But, just what a famous nutritional drink would say “With proper diet and exercise”, Stress could be eliminated, eye bags gone, messy hair in the morning gone and other signs of stress would bid goodbye “with the right outlook in life, and how we manage our life”.

COMFORT ZONE (Informative Essay)

COMFORT ZONE

Most people experiences ups and downs of their lives. As they close their eyes at night after an exhausting day, they hope for a calm and peaceful atmosphere. A place where they can be their selves and be relax. Somewhere or something that will make life happy and worth living for. For me my comfort zone is the church. At times when I feel so down and lonely it is the place I look forward to go to.

I remember when one time I felt sudden emptiness, something like I can not bear to stand another minute without bursting into tears because of so much sadness. I just walk without any plan where to go to. Going somewhere without direction. Just when I stop and found myself standing outside a church.

For a minute I just stand there staring at the structure until my feet seem to be pulled to enter. I walked through the aisle where a red carpet laid and realized that I was getting near the altar without any feeling of disturbance or agony. I was staring at the crucifix as if the person crucified on it is looking back at me. I felt so many emotions and suddenly i can not find a way to handle it. Then I kneel down and close my eyes. I started to talk to him, telling everything how I feel. Until I realized that my eyes was filled with tears. But my heart felt lighter; the tears where not brought by agony or sadness. It was tears of peacefulness and contentment. The conversation with Him was amazing. It was the simplest yet happiest conversation I ever had. I did not laugh but I smiled; a genuine smile which I never had for long.

In this I realized I am still blessed, so much blessed that I forgot because of so many heartaches and problems I had. Because of this I learned again to trust him. That in the midst of so much sadness and inevitable problems I have a place to go to and a person that is most accommodating to talk to. My comfort zone that I will always treasure an be thankful because I have learned that I will never be alone no matter what I will be through.

HOW TO LOOSE AND GAIN WEIGHT
By Anabelle B. Añonuevo

I was chubby when I was 21 years old. Then I got a chance to go abroad (Hongkong) and worked as a singer. My employer told me that being sexy is a must for an entertainer so he challenged me to trim down by doing daily exercises and eating less than what I used to. I weighed 119 pounds or 53.97 kilograms when I first came to my boss’s place.

My co-singer and I worked nightly at eight o’clock in the evening until twelve midnight. Our repertoire included ballad songs and danceable songs which required tiring dance steps. My weight hindered me from doing some of the routines for our number so I thought of doing something to lose weight.

I slept at two o’clock in the morning and woke up at nine o’clock in the morning to complete my eight-hour sleep. I took brunch (short for breakfast and lunch) and practiced my songs. At three o’clock in the afternoon, I would go to Kowloon Park to jog at the jogging trail. I just loved the ambiance of that park. There were certain parts of the trail wherein anyone could stop and do special exercises. I loved the sit-up instrument there since there is a bar where you could place your feet and it could aid you to perform proper crunches. I also played badminton with my friend there.

I modified my diet. I ate more fruits and vegetables and I minimized my rice intake. My friends noticed my weight loss and I was so happy with my figure. I will never forget when I weighed 103 lbs or 46.72 kg. which meant, I lost a total of 16 pounds.

When I went back to the Philippines, I decided to start my teaching career. I started teaching in a private school and I gradually forgot about exercising and dieting.

Then I applied at the public school. I got a permanent teaching position and I focused on my career. I did not find time to exercise and ate a lot especially when I was pressured from work. I went out with friends and unwind by eating and drinking with them. Soon, I noticed that my clothes were getting small already.  I realized that I was buying bigger clothes than before. After a few years, I got married and I got pregnant too. After giving birth, I thought, my weight would normalize but it did not.

Now that I weigh 63 kg., I am trying to find time to exercise and watch my diet. It is never too late to improve our health. (That’s what I tell myself) Looking back at the things I have done for the past six years, I admit that it is my fault why I gained a lot of weight. Once in a while, I jog at the joggers’ lane of Puro, Legazpi City hoping I could still lose some weight.

Here is a part of the book entitled “Weight Loss Process” by Quincy T. Ataviado which I want to share with you.

If you want to pursue your weight loss program, here are some of the important pointers that you should keep in mind:

1. Diet and exercise should be combined to constitute your main and principal instrument in losing weight.
2. There is no such thing as spot reducing.
3. Exercise and diet are effective in reducing fat.
4. Your first concern should be to build a good level of health and fitness based on an efficient cardiovascular system and an adequately strong muscular system.
5. It is highly advisable to get a medical checkup and a clearance before starting a program even if you are going to start only a mild walking program.
6. A physical checkup notwithstanding, it may still be mandatory to stop and to reassess – with the help of a doctor – your health if an adverse reaction is experienced as an apparent result of exercise.
7. Don’t starve yourself no matter how eager you are to reduce.
8. Don’t deprive yourself completely of any nutrient, even of fat.
9. Drink enough water.
10. Relax.

I hope you learned something from this informative essay.
