If you are a man and at some point a woman will ask you this, " How do I look?". You must be very careful how you answer this question. I tell you , you will never come up with the right answer.
The problem is that most women do not think of their looks in the same way that men do. Most men form an opinion on how they look in early stage of their life and stick to it for the rest of their lives. Most men think of themselves as average looking and being average does not bother them. Yes, average is fine for men. This is why men never ask anybody how do they look?. Their primary beauty care is to shave themselves regularly and just have a tidy clothes to wear. If they already do this they devote their mind to something else just like their next company meeting.
Women do not look themselves this way. Most women think about their appearance in this three words,"not good enough".
No matter how pretty a woman may appear to be to others, when she looks at herself in the mirror, she still have doubts about her looks.
Why do women have such a low self-esteem? Does playing Barbie doll during their formative years has something to do with this? They grow up thinking they need to look like their Barbie which for most women is impossible.
In order to conform to the said beauty ideal, women have to do lots of procedure to transform their appearance. Nowadays, thinness is a precondition for being perceived by others and oneself as "sensational". Women attempt to mould their appearance to meet to the current beauty ideal. They starve themselves to death to attain a waistline of 26 or 25 perhaps. According to Comerci incidence in eating disorder such as anorexia nervosa,an eating disorder that makes people lose more weight than is considered healthy for their age and height and bulimia, a disorder characterized by binge eating and purging or consuming a large amount of food in a short amount of time, followed by an attempt to rid oneself of the food consumed, usually by purging (vomiting),diuretics or excessive exercise has doubled for the last two decades.1
After achieving the perfect body form that most women consider as one important goal in life.
Women undergo physical changes through plastic surgery such as liposuction, breast implants, tummy tucks and face lifts.
This has always been a hot topics not just in Hollywood but in our country as well. Tabloids publish issues with stories speculating who are the celebrities and known people who undergo on the procedure. To name a few, Heidi Montag a host of reality TV admitted to have ten plastic surgery procedure and she is only 23! Brooke Bates of Texas, became the youngest patient to undergo cosmetic surgery at the tender age of 12 to attain a Barbie body.3
According to 2008 statistics from the America Society of Aesthetics Plastic Surgery. 93% of surgeries were performed on women.2 Breast Augmentation and Botox seems to be the most popular because perky breast and wrinkle-free face are in nowadays.
These surgeries attest to the extreme adjustment that many women feel they must make in order to attain the body ideal which in turn making positive adjustment on their self esteem. What they didn't realize is they have come to relate to their bodies as an object and a package of experimentation.
We must celebrate our individual differences and imperfections. He made us special. This individuality is worth much more than the price of any plastic surgery procedure. If women continue to pursue the aim of achieving eternally youthful body and beauty, women are only setting up themselves to FAILURE.#juliecabiles#
