Our Nature Ground
By Dina F. Comboy
Home is where everything starts. Every life demands for a cradle to grow, mature, hope, and aspire. Every life requires a motherland to be able to thrive. It is a requisite reality just like the stars that needs the sky to exist, just like fishes that cannot survive without water, just like plants that needs sunlight to flourish, just like birds that claim air for their wings and just like a baby that cry out for a mother. Probably, we cannot be able to dispense the place where we truly belong. A home is where our heart is.
Philippines is what we call home. A land made perfect because of its imperfections. An awe-inspiring gift from God above, a stupendous beauty fits for a king and we, Filipinos are worthy to own this sanctuary.
In the southeast of Asia, in the waters of the Pacific Ocean, lies an exceptional archipelago that stand marvelously and strike everyone perplexed. The Philippines is even more blessed for having the tenure of such wonderful tourist spots and landmarks that attracts foreign people to visit and invest in our country. Aside from these natural and man-made wonders, our country also have and hold natural resources and a tropical climate perfect for biodiversity. But these natural treasures began to disappear one by one in a wink of an eye. Who is to blame? The alarming climate change itself is not the sole cause for this problem, we can always blame humanity because we triggered global warming. Because of man-made chemical pollution and the continuing deforestation, the ozone layer continue to thin down. Why not plant trees instead to save mother earth and our motherland and also to save ourselves from getting our tragic share of consequences.
Moreover, the culture here in the Philippines is undeniably rich not to mention those folk dances, songs, poems and epics from different regions and provinces but are endangered to be buried down anytime because of the inevitable and dazzling rapidity of the progress in terms of technological advancement in our country As it continue to go farther, we tend to be swallowed and overly attached to electronic devices that make forget our responsibility of cultivating these cultures and traditions handed down by our forefathers. The lifestyles of all Filipinos also began to change. There is no harm in our desire to move forward but it is wrong to leave behind those cultures that remind us of our origin and true identity.
Philippines is a free country. Indeed, we are lucky to be living with absolute freedom in our hands but this freedom is the most abused today. On the other hand, in terms of economy, we do not belong in the underdeveloped nations in the world. Yet, we cannot deny the fact that our country is amidst of poverty. However, it is certain that the government is doing its part to face this quest but with unity, everything will fall in place God’s perfect time.
Our country is more than enough, if we could just see. The Philippines is something that we should be proud of and something to conserve otherwise the next generation will no longer witness the grandiosity of the pearl of the orient seas. Our land had made its impact on our lives sine then and it will continue on doing that for sure. And as a sign of gratitude, let us at least practice nationalism by being loyal to our country. Let us not be contented of being just a Filipino by birth or by blood, why not try to be a Filipino by heart? Somewhere in every Filipinos heart, there will always be a fragment for our native land.
